Stress free moving

Moving day can bring even the strongest person to tears. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Yes, you can actually have a moving day that is exciting rather than stressful. Just follow these tips from Browning Park Mini Storage in Benton, AR.

A Few Overall Tips

Move on a week day – not on a weekend when banks, utilities, and other companies are closed. You may not need them, but moving on a week day when these places are open is just plain smart – just in case.

Don’t wait until the last minute to pack. Instead, spread it out over several weeks so that you won’t be rushing around like that famous chicken without its head.

Label all boxes with contents and destination room so that you or the movers can unload and immediately put boxes in the correct room. Keep all the information about each box on a checklist.

Prepare a bag with a couple of changes of clothing and toiletries so that you have a few days before you need them.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help from family and friends. More workers will make the move go faster.

Take frequent breaks on moving day so that you stay calm and relaxed.

Hire your movers or rental truck well in advance. You don’t want to be searching for those critical components at the last minute. And if you’re using movers, ask for the first start time of the day so that the workers are fresh and not exhausted from moves they made earlier in the day.

Supplies You’ll Need

A moving company may supply some of the following supplies, so check with them first. You’ll need –

moving blankets and padding

stretch and bubble wrap

mattress and furniture covers

packing and moving tape

tarps or plastic sheeting

moving straps, rope, bungee cords

work gloves

step-stool

Loading the Moving Truck

Try to use moving boxes of the same size to make stacking them in the moving truck easier.

Wrap all unboxed items, such as mirrors, artwork, and furniture, with padding, bubble wrap, or furniture pads.

Take apart any furniture that you can and wrap them – bed frames, dresser mirrors, artwork, etc.

Tape all hardware, screws, and parts to the disassembled furniture.

Place wrapped artwork and mirrors upright between mattresses or other ‘soft’ items.

Remove drawers before loading desks, cabinets, and dressers.

Start filling the moving truck from the part closest to the cab and work back, loading the heaviest things first. This may seem obvious, but surprisingly, there are people who don’t do this.

Use ropes and bungee cords strategically throughout the process to make loading easier.

Unloading & Unpacking

You can feel good now that the hard part is done. Unloading and unpacking is usually easier than packing it all up, and you’ll have time to go through the boxes at your leisure. Some boxes may not need to be unpacked for weeks, but turning your new place into a home will be a labor of love.
